homework desk
When solving a problem, we are constantly faced with constraints, materials, cost, manufacturing capabilities, etc. A good designer embraces these as anchors they can pivot around in search of a solution. This project is constrained by the fact that I live in a small New York City apartment and do not have access to equipment such as table-saws, planers, and jointers. I do, however, have access to the internet, a Dozuki saw, and a set of clamps.
The desk surface is reclaimed from mass production IKEA butcher-block. The rest is purchased as off-the-shelf, dimensional lumber from a hardware store. The goal is to design a desk using standard elements and hand-tools to create something new and exciting.
CORD MANAGEMENT
A rubber track with a series of clips keep cords from falling out of reach when not in use. Clips can be reconfigured to customize your setup. Keep cords out of the way... but always in reach.
